Scope of the role
The Mechanical Design Engineer supports end-to-end development, partnering with nearby suppliers to accelerate learning and delivery.
- Create SolidWorks 3D CAD and detailed drawings for production.
- Design plastic components for injection moulding and assembly automation.
- Prototype, plan tests, analyse results and iterate.
- Support DFM and tolerance discussions with suppliers.
- Collaborate with electronics, firmware and industrial design colleagues.
Key skills and experience required
- Proven project work as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or Design Engineer.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university.
- SolidWorks proficiency, sound drawings practice, and tolerance stacks.
- DFM for injection moulding; exposure to FEA and hand calculations.
Salary and benefits
- £35,000–£40,000 basic salary.
- Paid overtime and flexitime around core hours 10:00–15:00.
- 22 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 25.
